The government of Quebec issued NEW rules for the Christmas Holidays.
Quebecers will be allowed to visit and spend time with others from Dec 24-27 (4 days).
However, people of NON-CHRISTIAN faith are NOT HAPPY with this decsion.
They feel that Christmas could be celebrated but Chanukah or Kwanzaa or other religious days can't!
What are your thoughts about this decision?
Explain.

I don't think it's very fair to people who don't celebrate Christmas. They should get to see their family for their holidays too. Maybe because the government didn't want to start closing the schools for a whole three months, some holidays start at the very beginning of December and to keep everyone home for a week the schools would have be closed either last week or this week. Still, people should be able to celebrate with family.
ReplyDeleteI really find that its not too fair for people who don't celebrate Christmas too. Good blog!
DeleteMy friend and I were actually having a conversation on this topic. I find it odd that the government only gave a few days to celebrate Christmas with our families but those few days are not enough for Jewish people to fully celebrate Hanukkah. I celebrate Christmas every year with my family, thinking if it was the other way around and we didn't have enough time to celebrate Christmas eve and Christmas day I would be well disappointed and it would make my 2020 year worst on top of everything else. Not only Christians live in Quebec we should be more inclusive of different religions.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you, other religions holidays are quite overlooked when it comes to taking time off to celebrate and I feel this is something we should change. Great blog!
DeleteI also fin dit odd thaqt the government only gives us a few days to celebrate Christmas with our families.
DeleteI feel that the government did a big decision by doing this and allowing Christmas to be celebrated and for lots of people its great but like others said its not too good for people who don't celebrate Christmas and want to be able to see their families on the day(s) or their celebration. At the same time I would understand that they pick Christmas because lots of people celebrate it and the people haven't seen their families some since the beginning of the virus. The problem is too if they were too make the "range" of seeing people a lot bigger the virus might spread more. It must have been a hard decision to make
ReplyDeleteI agree that it's not good for people who celebrate Christmas, but just because they maybe thought it was a bigger holiday doesn't make it any better. Great blog!
DeleteI agree its not good that other religions can't celebrate on their day(s). Everyone should be able to celebrate and not only on Christmas.
DeleteI agree that it would spread more if they made the range bigger but it still isnt fair.

ReplyDeleteI don’t think that it’s fair to the non-christian people that they cannot get together for their own holiday/holidays. But I don’t blame them because they are just trying to let as many people just celebrate with their families for the one time we actually can even during Covid-19, so we’re pretty lucky especially during this time. But either way during December, there are many holidays in the month that we should all be able to get together and see family, but I understand what they are trying to do, all just to limit the spread of Covid-19 cases and slow it down.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with what the government is doing, they're just not doing it in an efficient way!
DeleteI think that this isn't fair to people who follow another religion because they don't get to see their family during the holiday season. But, to be honest, i don't thing that this rule should be placed at all. The cases are still going up AND the cold season is the time when cases spread the most.
ReplyDeleteI agree, this is not fair at all!
DeleteI don't think it's fair to celebrate this way, but at least they are giving us a few days anyways. I feel like we should be given days all break instead of just that select time period. Christmas isn't important for non Christians obviously, and I feel like that group should get their own select days as well. It's an injustice
ReplyDeleteI agree 100%! Great Blog
DeleteI think that all religions should be able to celebrate the holiday season with there families. It's not fair that Christians get to have it of but other religions can't. Everyone is equal so, it should be all or nothing. If the solution is only okay for some people than don't actually do it. You have to put yourself in other shoes. You wouldn't like it you couldn't celebrate during the holidays because of your religion but others can. It's not fair.
ReplyDeleteExactly we need a plan that serves both perspectives of different religions. Nicely said!
DeleteI think that the government of Quebec should issued the rules to at least a week and half that way they can maybe cover most of the holidays, just to make most people happy. You can't make everyone happy with your decisions but you should at least try. The feelings of Non-Christians are something I can relate to since I don't celebrate Christmas and my family wanted to extend the holidays just a bit more than during the Christmas time :)
ReplyDeleteI don’t think it’s fair for people who don’t celebrate Christmas or have another holiday tradition or traditions. Not everybody celebrates on the 25th of december and I feel like Christmas could be celebrated but Chanukah or Kwanzaa or other religious celebrations can't. We celebrated Halloween which I think is even worse than celebrating Christmas because during Halloween we got candy from random people who could’ve had covid or other illnesses. At Least with celebrating Christmas we know who got sick and who is the cause, and easily track covid down and quarantine everybody without it spreading. So why can’t we celebrate other holidays that track covid the same way that celebrating Christmas does?
ReplyDeleteI understand why people find this decision unfair because it's as if the government is putting Christmas above all other holidays which isn't very fair. However, if we did want to celebrate all of the other holidays, the break would be extended for like a month and then it would make everything complicated. I feel like this situation could’ve been avoided if we did online school. In conclusion, I really don’t think that this decision from the government is fair but what can you do about it?
ReplyDeleteI agree and well the rules are already put into place. Like you said what can we do about it. Great blog!
DeleteYeah, I'd be mad too. The descision they made is only helpful for people with celebrations that only last about a day. If you where to celebrate anything else you wouldn't have time to celebrate it or would have to cut the amount of time in half or more. I think that they should give atleast a week of time to spend with people and that is the LEAST they could do.
ReplyDeleteYour writing about how this is only helpful for people with celebrations during this break is so true and what I find is that the people who have positive opinions on this break are saying that it's a break for everyone which isn't true.
DeleteI very much wasn't aware of this problem but i see why people are getting mad although yes i think it is a good idea to let people quarantine the let them see people for the 24-27 i think that the the government have not shown respect for the other religions and tradition i think that if we all get to spend time with loved ones on one of are holidays so can other.
ReplyDeletei agree with your statements, especially where you said the government isn't showing respect to the other religions, it isn't fair to them. if for Christmas we're allowed to have get-togethers then others can too for their holiday(s) :))
DeleteI think that it’s great that the government is letting people see their families during Christmas even though it’s only for four days. I’m personally not a very thoughtful person so because I celebrate Christmas I never thought about the people who don’t celebrate. I know that not all people celebrate Christmas but I never even realized that those who don’t, won’t get to spend their holiday with their families. Now that I realized this I don’t think it’s really fair but I’m not the government so I don’t make that rules.
ReplyDeleteThat's true it doesn't really matter what we think because we cant change their minds
DeleteI feel that the government should not allow people to spend time with other people for 24-27 of december. The reason why is because like it said on the blog that people of other religions are upset about this decision which is rightfully so and I think the solution to this is to not give any of this special treatment for any religious holiday even if christanity is the most popular religion. It's not fair to the other religions and even if we give this special treatment to any religious holiday then surely someone else will complain and then someone else will complain in till eventually people will be going over to their friends and family and traveling often but the hole reason why were in lock down is that people don't go anywhere to reduce spread of Covid-19.
ReplyDeleteI feel that it isn’t very fair for people who don’t celebrate Christmas, but they can’t make everyone happy. I think they are just choosing Christmas because they are just trying to make the most people happy. I think that they should make everyone go online for school earlier so that everyone can have the time they need to spend with their families whatever the holiday.
ReplyDeleteThat's a really good idea to start online school earlier so that everyone can spend time with their families for their holiday.
DeleteI don't find it fair that people of other religions don't get a couple days to spend with family during their holidays. Even though most of the population are christian and celebrate Christmas does not mean that the smaller percentage of the population get the same treatment as people who celebrate Christmas. Everyone should get two or three days to get with family (while following the rules to social distance and only have a certain number of people in their houses) for their holidays.
ReplyDeleteI can understand why people of non-christian faith are upset with this decision. They feel as if schools aren’t as religiously accepting because their kids don’t get time off to celebrate their religion’s holidays and to them this is considered disrespectful. I can’t say I disagree with them, my mom is jewish and I know it upsets her that I can’t take much time off to celebrate Chanukka properly because I’d be very behind on school work. I feel as if this sort of decision should be taken into consideration by the school board.
