Our Lives Matter Through the course of a historic year of civil unrest and the emergence of the #BlackLivesMatter Movement, teen writers from around the globe came together to take part in this national conversation about race, inequality, violence, and justice. "We are not thugs, they say. We are not victims. We are big sisters and sports stars, academic strivers and everyday heroes. We speak out for justice. We dream big dreams." These writers want more for themselves, more for their community, more for their generation. Who are the people you look up to and learn from right now? Who do you follow on Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, TikTok? Are they white? Or are they people of color, from all kinds of backgrounds? How can we spread the word about OUR LIVES MATTER? Explain.
There are not many things that you can do to change the opinion of people who have a hatred towards black people. The church could advance their security system so they can even catch the culprit. What Fillier is doing is the right thing. He is standing up for the black people and he has more pity than ever for the black people since he experienced the the slightest taste of what it's like for Black and Indigenous and people of colour in this province and in this community every single day who have to deal with systemic racism and intimidation and anger and hatred just for being who they are.
ReplyDeleteYou have a point when you mentioned potentially upping the security system to catch the culprit. Nice blog!
DeleteI agree, people have their own opinions and you can't change it.
DeleteIt was gross to see that people would actually threaten and vandalise a church for a sign regarding equal rights. It doesn't effect anyone if they read the sign its just spreading awareness. Throwing bricks through windows, and threatening church members is disgusting its a total act of childish behavior. First the vandals commited an actual crime which is vandalism which they can be charged for and also harassment to the church members which is another way they can be charged. But with the gouverment you never know if they are going to charge they choose who they want.
ReplyDeleteI agree that what they're doing is a total act of childish behavior.
DeleteI agree, it's so gross that people would actually threaten and vandalise a church that was meant for equal rights, great blog!!
DeleteIt is a terrible terrible thing that these vandals did. The hatred they have towards equality is disturbing and the fact that they would even dare vandalize a sign that is for equal rights is disgusting. These people can actually be charged with a lot of things, some of which could include B&E, Vandalism, and harassment which as described could have been assault. I feel the vandals should be charged and tried in court for what they did.
ReplyDeleteI agree it's terrible what they did. Nice blog!
DeleteI find is really sad and upsetting that people still feel the need to be this disrespectful. And that fact that they'e judging people off of that fact they're a different race is so disapointing. I think the vadnals should be charged and hace to do loads of community service.
ReplyDeleteI agree with them having to do community service, great blog!
DeleteI agree they should have to do community service, like maybe fixing and cleaning the church. Nice Blog!
DeleteI find it really terrible what they did , from throwing the brick to vandalizing the sign. The sign holds a really important message and should have not been disrespected. It's really sad that people still think like that and do things like that. These vandals should be charged a lot of money and possibly some form of helping fix the church maybe.
ReplyDeleteThey should defiantly be charged and fixing the church is a good idea. Great blog
DeleteThey should 100% be charged for their actions. Good blog
DeleteIt is really disgusting what they did. The vandals who did that should be sent to prison and given fines. I just don't understand how they could discriminate a different race, it just doesn't make sense to me. The Black Lives Matter sign is so important and the fact that they could write such hateful things is really terrible. People like this really need to be educated properly.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, what they did was disgusting. Great blog!

DeleteI agree the vandals should receive jail time and get they should get a fine. They need to learn that what they did was extremely racist and very wrong.
DeleteHow could they do that, black lives always matter and always will. The fact that most of the town is racist and thinks that the priest brought filth to their city. More like the priest brought in the truth and the facts that this town is racist. These people really needed to be educated properly. The priest is just good man for writing the fact that black lives matter. These people should be fined and they should be in jail for 4 days until an expensive bail is paid.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the people who did this (the vandals) should be educated about what they did. Great blog!
DeleteI feel terrible for what happened to that church. What they wrote on that sign was disgusting and just plain rude. They shouldn't have been doing that. And the brick though the window, it's so bad. I hope there are a lot of punishments and I hope the people that did this get fines and get put in jail for their actions.
ReplyDeleteSome people can't stand being stood up to, and those people are the ones who are racist. The vandalism is disgusting, and whoever did that is a selfish person. The brick through the window is a whole other thing. If someone was in there they could've gotten seriously hurt by glass shards or the brick itself. We need to spread positivity and not hate.
ReplyDeleteThis is pretty bad. I hate it when people just like to make things worse in an already bad situation. It's Covid along with other very misfortunate things going on and people just want to cause more drama. These people are just absolutely stupid. They are being very racist too. I think people like this should be punish very severely especially in these times.
ReplyDeletethey really should be punished severely for such a terrible thing they did. good blog :)
DeleteI agree that they should be punished, great blog!
Deleteto be honest, what those vandals did was really disturbing and terrible. i feel like the vandals should be handled by being given a really big fine because what they did because this is really wrong, especially since that sign holds a really big importance nowadays as well. all of the protesting, etc that's been going on. its just very disappointing that people can do that though. but also the brick that was thrown in through the window causing it to shatter, just makes me really disappointed about this reality too especially now during this pandemic.
ReplyDeleteIts an awful thing what people do sometimes, It disturbs me that people even think about doing this. Now that we are entering 2021, I would think that people would have left this all behind in 2020 but I guess not which is really disappointing a little bit stupid. The people who vandalized should be charged or should be do community service, to show other people that these actions are incredibly disrespectful and others shouldn't do the same.
ReplyDeletei honestly do think that those vandals should be charged with either community service or a really big fine. good blog!!
DeleteI think that vandalizing is a terrible thing, especially when it's saying something racist or any type of slur. I am really disappointed with our society because this should have been left in the past, we must learn better and leave this behind. Also I think it's so very disrespectful that someone threw bricks through a window and stole a bunch of stuff that is important to their religion, it's not right whatsoever. Vandals should be treated seriously because it's a big problem, they should definitely have a consequence to pay.
ReplyDeleteThe vandals should definitly be punished, with either a fine or jail time, since this is robbery and vandalising and those can get you punished big time. if you are going to vandalise a CHURCH, where you go to be a community and do religion things, to get closer to god I guess, that is messed up since that can be people's safe place to think, be free and feel safe. I think if the vandals are caught they should get atleast a year of prison time or up to 3 years and a fine.
ReplyDeleteWhat that person did was absolutely disrespectful. I think that the vandals should go to prison. So should the people who broke in. If its the same person they should definitely be put in jail with a fine. It is completely wrong and rude. The fact that they did it at a church is so because its a religious place and people go there to worship.
ReplyDeleteI think that there’s one adjective that really describes this: Disgusting. I think it’s so disgusting that people would actually do this because people are going to have their own opinions and you can’t change that but just the fact that people would do that is really just so sad. There are some people that really just don’t get why this is so offensive and at the end of the day, we just can’t change things like this, we want to believe that we can but at the end of the day, we just can’t, and that really sucks sometimes because as much as we have progressed since past events, there is still so much room for improvement.
ReplyDeleteI think that it's absolutely horrible what that person/people did. I think that they should be tried the second they find out who did it. A church is a place that is supposed to be safe, comforting. It's super disrespectful what that person/people did, and I think that they should have to go to prison, because, what would have happened if there was a person inside that building where the other person was throwing the brick, they could have killed/seriously hurt.
ReplyDeleteThe brick totally could have killed or seriously hurt someone and the person who did this must face serious charges like being charged immediately.
Deletethat's true if someone was there the brick could have hit them in the head they could have died
DeleteThat incredibly terrible thing he or she did to that church and that sign. Not only did the person steal stuff and break the window but he vandalised the Black Lives matter sign going so far as to writing Hail Satan 666. But I'm glad that this Matthew Fillier guy isn't backing down and is repairing the sign and keeping it up he could have just taken it off and not put it back on. To deal with this man or woman is hard especially because you'll have to catch them but honestly just keep putting the sign up.
ReplyDeleteI was always told that everyone is entitled to their own opinions but when you hate on someone else’s beliefs and then you go and ruin something that belongs to them, you know that this time the conflict went too far. When I readc the article I was shocked to hear that someone would actually do that because they opposed the church's beliefs. I think that the vandals should have to pay for the damage and the things that they stole and that they should possibly be put in prison for a short while, maybe a few days.
ReplyDeleteI think that commiting a crime of vandalism is one thing but this one almost sounds like a threat. I think that the people who did that should pay a very big fine and do some community hours because that will show them to help the community instead of being a jerk. The person who did that seems to be probably very angry people so maybe if they went to therapy or anger management they would see what they had done wrong.
ReplyDeleteI think that people definitely shouldn't vandalise Black Lives Matter signs. Every one should have the same rights. I think that the people who vandalised the sign and broke into the church are very disrespectful. The church was trying to support the Black Lives Matter protest but then some people come and reck it. It good the the guy at the church continues to support Black Lives Matter protests. I think that if the vandals get caught they should be charged appropriately.
