After a FULL year of COVID, I want you to tell me your thoughts about:

- Did you feel safe riding the school bus?
- Did you feel safe in school?
- Did you do your part to make sure you follow COVID guidelines?

A 16-year old kid died of COVID last week.
At any point this year were you nervous about catching COVID?

Explain.

  1. I haven't taken the school bus in a long time but when I take the city bus I do get a little nervous and I usually bike or skateboard now. I don't really feel safe in school and I personally don't like going to school and I rather have online. I usually follow covid guidlines, besides when I'm with my friends outside of school because when were hanging out I don't wear a mask, but that's only outside.

    2. I usually bike around instead of public transport this year also. Great blog

  2. I haven’t taken the bus in a really long time. My dad usually drives me and every other day he drives my older brothers as well. I DON’T like being in school. I think it’s really stupid that we are still going to school full time. Instead, we should be doing online or day A and day B. I think I have been doing my part to make sure I follow Covid guidelines. I have somewhat been social distancing with my friends, and it depends what setting I’m in but sometimes I will wear my mask

    3. I would love to do a day A and B that would be the best and would make coming to school not as bad.

  3. I do take the school bus home after school everyday. It's mostly smooth sailing. I feel kinda safe at school but I feel like the covid precautions aren't taken care of here as much as they should be but its fine, it doesn't bother me as much. I feel like I do follow the covid guidelines for the most part but it's sometimes a little frustrating. I have caught covid before everything shut down last year. It wasn't the worst but I hear the variant is much worse and Im much more afraid of catching the variant because it attacks kids as much as it attacks the elder.

    1. Yeah it is usually smooth sailing , Nice blog!

  4. At the beginning of the year I was pretty scared about coming to school. I hand sanitise my hands constantly and I do social distancing. I was a lot more stressed out at the beginning of the year. I am worried that I'm going to catch the variant because supposedly its a lot worse that regular Covid -19 and effect kids badly. The school bus isn't so bad because everyone sits in the same spot like in a class and when the weather is hot we open the windows that helps the air circulate.

    1. Yeah the variant really makes you think about catching it. Good blog!

  5. I ride the bus every now and then. My parents pick me up most of the time, but if they have work to do, I have to use the bus. On the bus, I think the only thing that's protecting us are mask. There is no social distancing, and sometimes the bus is busy so even less distancing. I always get a seat alone so I don't have to worry about that. School is not the safest place in these times. I think it's okay here at school, because we have decent guidelines, but they always tell us to keep social distancing when our damn desk aren't even distanced. I think I'm doing my part to follow guidelines, by wearing mask and not getting too close to people. I was a bit of catching Covid, but not for my sake but for others. My parents are teachers and if they got it, that would be bad.

  6. I haven't ride the bus in like 2 years other than public transportation but that's another case. I feel fine at school even though I think that we should have done day A and B like the sec 3,4 and 5. I feel like our grade had a lot of cases so maybe following that plan could have decreased the numbers. At school, It's pretty okay, I feel safe enough to go to school but honestly we could have done better when it comes to following the COVID guidelines :) I was kinda worried about catching COVID but then I realized that my priority isn't that important, it's my family that matters more so if I catch COVID, quarantine works too, i'm just worried for my parents.

    1. we really should start to do day A and B as well because then there will be so many less people in our school too, good blog :))

  7. I safe about covid in the bus I mean it seems ok., tho we abandoned planned seating since we got a new bus driver. In school I also feel safe since i'm in the back of the class and people wont really cough backwards. Yes I follow covid guidelines when with friends outside of my bubble I am always wearing mask and 2m. But I have to admit sometimes when running outside I take off my mask because its super hard to breathe.

  8. i take the school bus and i guess i'm okay with it because we usually just have assigned seating and all. in school, i feel good too but i still think that we should start doing the day A like online and day B in school because there would be so much less people in the school and even on the buses which would make it feel way safer too. i think i do my part following all the covid guidelines, i sanitize my hands and wear a mask and all. but i was kinda scared of catching it because i just don't want anybody in my family to catch it as well. but mostly during the winter i was a bit scared because of all the bacteria and germs that could have been in the air because it was so cold.

    1. I think doing day A and B online school would be good too. It would help a lot with the school having half of it's usual capacity.

  9. Hot Take: WE SHOULDN'T BE IN SCHOOL. My grandma lives in Burlington Ontario. Their cases went up slightly, and now everything is shut down. The cases there are drastically lower than here, but we still have to go to school. I take the bus because I live 20 minutes away from the school, my mom works early mornings and my dad has to make breakfast and get my sister ready. The bus feels fine, but the kids on my bus don't really respect COVID-19 rules… I just think we shouldn't be going, for our safety and others.

    1. I take the bus too and I agree that people on the bus don't really follow the Covid-19 rules. Great blog!

    4. I completely agree that we shouldn't be in school right now, it's too much of a risk with how fast this whole variant thing is spreading.

  10. I don't take the schoolbus so I can't really comment on that, but when it comes to feeling safe in school, it really varied. An example is that during december, it felt really dangerous as classes left and right were getting shut down due to covid. So I guess you could say that yes it did feel a tiny bit dangerous. Honestly schools really shouldnt be open though. We should be doing online so people can be safe, even if it costs us.

  11. I don't take the school bus but in school I wouldn't say I feel safe. I'm not scared of being in school but I definitely don't feel as if I am totally protected and safe from the virus. Since there's new variants you never know what could happen if you do get it. I do follow the covid guidelines. I keep my mask on at all times, no friends come into my house and I sanitize my hands multiple times a day. I definitely got more nervous about catching it after hearing younger people are dying and about new variants that are stronger. I wasn't too nervous about getting it at the beginning since it was only older people who would get it more severely but now that it is more unknown it's getting a bit scary.

  12. I don't take the school bus so I would say no, I don't feel safe taking it. I feel safe in school but then if someone in my class comes in contact with COVID or students in a class in our hallway gets it I'm probably going to start being nervous. I would feel much safer doing day A and B, I feel that this is such a better solution to stop the spread. I do follow the guidelines and I try to do my part the best I can. Hearing that a 16 year old kid died did make me nervous and probably a lot of kids my age. And yes I have felt nervous through-out last year and this year about catching the virus and even the variants.

  13. After a year of Covid I can say that I feel relatively safe riding the bus to and from school. I know that not everyone follows the Covid regulations but I know I do and that I will continue to until I won’t need to anymore. I guess I feel safe in school but even with my doubts I’d rather be in school than at home. Going to school is nice because you’re going into a different environment. When I’m at home there are so many distractions whereas at school there aren't as many. I feel that I do my part in following the Covid-19 regulations, I wear my mask when told to and I relatively keep my distance from others. I was never really nervous about catching Covid-19 but I ended up catching it anyway. It was an interesting experience to say the least. This pandemic has been very crazy and I hope it will end soon.

  14. I remember last year around December, I was on the bus and I had heard from a kid in my class about corona, I went and asked a sec 4 about the virus and if it would get bad, he said "It's not that bad, people are exagerating and it isn't going to be bad if people aren't stupid and just go to the doctor". These days, I feel safe at school and stuff, but I don't take the bus because my mom is worried about so many kids in one bus. I do try and follow covid guidelines because I don't feel like making people sick or getting my family sick.

  15. I take the bus home every day, and on my bus there's usually only one person per seat so I'm not really close to anybody else and I feel pretty safe. I was never too afraid of being in school because of Covid, although knowing that there are so many people around and that not everyone follows the rules to keep everyone safe can be a bit annoying and sometimes I do get a bit nervous if people from other bubbles get too close to me. I feel like I did my part in following the Covid guidelines by not getting too close to others, wearing my mask and sanitizing when needed. There haven't been any times where I was really afraid of getting Covid, but there have been some times when I felt a bit nervous or uncomfortable.

  16. Like anyone else, I've been nervous about getting covid. Mostly because I would feel so bad to spread it to others. I take the bus to and from school every day. I'm not the most scared of it because I got lucky enough to have an assigned seat by myself. I also am not the most scared to go to school because I like seeing people, but it's always a thought in the back of my head.

  17. I didn't ride the school bus this year so I don't know the situation. At the start I felt a little scared at school for Covid-19 when a whole bunch of classes around us were being shut down, but now it's become normal to wear a mask and sanitize. I feel I did follow the Covid guidelines as well as I could of course I didn't completely follow them sometimes but the people that did annoy me were the families that go into supermarkets all together when it's supposed to be one person and there are like 5 of them. I wasn't that nervous about getting Covid because as you know it's not that effective on Children as it is elderly and also I got confidence when my like 80 year old grandma got Covid and survived.

  18. I don't take the bus, but if I did I still probably wouldn't feel that safe on it. I feel pretty safe in school. Everyone has their masks on and washing their hands. Most of the teachers are also doing their best to keep safe. I haven't been seeing any family up until now, when the weather is nicer and we can go outside. I wear my mask all the time and don't go out past curfew, unless I'm with my dogs. So I would say I've been pretty good.

  19. I felt the majority of the time safe riding the bus because in my bus there wasn't a lot of people so we were all spread out as well as most of the time I felt safe at school but there were moments when the cases kept on going up and some teachers weren't even wearing their masks that's when I start to get nervous I believe I try my best to follow the covid-19 Guide lines in order for our lives to go back to normal sooner rather than later.

  20. I didn’t really like the bus last year. I had to wake up early and my bus was always late so I had to stand outside in the cold. I didn’t really ever feel threatened at school and I never really thought I wasn’t safe. I try to remember to wash my hands a lot and use the hand sanitizer, when I walk in the halls I try to stay on the right. I was never very worried about getting COVID because I didn’t realized that it could hurt me.

  21. My parents didn't like the idea of having me mixing bubbles on school buses, when they made their decision to not put me on them this year, which I agree with. Being at school for almost a full year with covid and all that, I think that I have gotten used to constantly being nervous and anxious. I think I've done my part, I've only seen 2 people outside of school for the last year, and it was always with a mask on and stuff. I think that I was more stressed out and anxious about catching it at the beginning of the year, when you didn't have to wear your mask while in class, and we didn't really know what was going on.

  22. I take the school bus even though my family doesn't like the idea of it. I don't always feel safe going on the bus because we are getting in contact with everyone and mixing all the class bubbles. Whenever cases start to go up in our class or our school, I always get nervous going to school because I don't feel safe. My family and I follow the Covid guidelines. I always wear my mask inside and outside of school and I social distance with others. I've never really been scared of catching Covid myself, I'm just scared of catching it and giving it to others like my parents.
