Last week, a good samaritan returned a wallet to the appropriate owner.

The wallet had approximately $1400 dollars of cash inside.

What is a good samaritan?

What would you have done?

Do you feel that most people would have done the right thing in this situation?

Explain.

  1. A good samaritan is a charitable and helpful person that knows what the right thing to do is, and does it. If someone had dropped a wallet that had $1400 dollars of cash inside, it would all depend on the variables to decide if I were to return it. If I was broke or wanted something that cost more than I could afford I would probably take around $500. But, in reality I would return the wallet even if I was in a bad living circumstance, it would be the right thing to do.

  2. A good Samaritan is someone who would do the right thing. They are genuinely a kind person and they know the difference between right and wrong. If i were to find a wallet with wads of cash i would return it to its rightful owner. I wouldn't keep it because ts selfish. That person probably worked a lot of hours to earn that money and keeping it would be wrong. Honestly I don't know if people would keep it to themselves or give it back to the owner. I think it all depends on the person and how they think and what they consider right.

  3. a good samaritan is someone who knows between the rights and the wrongs, and someone who is a helpful and good person to others. if i had found a wallet with a bunch of cash, i'd return it because it's the right thing to do but i guess it also depends, like if it was like 5 bucks then i'd most probably keep it, but if it were more than like 15, i'd return it to the rightful owner. i feel like everyone would have reacted differently to that sort of situation because it really all depends on kind of person you are and what you think is the right thing to do in their opinion.

  4. A good Samaritan is a person who knows whats the right thing to do in situations. If I would have had the chance I would have probably given it back. Maybe considered it a bit at first but I mean if I was in the situation of the person with the lost wallet I would have loved if that person brought it back . Sadly I think during these times 1400 dollars is a lot to come by and its super easy to pick up the wallet take the money or just some of the money and they leave.

    1. I agree I think I would also be tempted at the start to take some but I would end up putting it back the way it was, like you wrote. Great blog.

  5. A good Samaritan is someone who helps others under no duty to do so! I would have done the same thing since 1400$ dollars is a large amount of money! Someone have worked hard to earn this money and they deserved it. People should definitely do the right thing in this situation. Imagine if you lost 1400$ in your wallet, would you like it back? Yes, of course. If someone was nice to you and gave you back your wallet, you'd feel super grateful and happy. The same thing will happened if you were the one to pick a wallet.

  6. I agree that you should return the wallet because someone has worked hard to earn this money and they deserve it. Great choice!

  7. A good samaritan is someone who helps their community even though their not obligated to. Being a good samaritan is very easy and anyone can do it. I definitely would have done the same thing because you never know if that money was all the person had for their rent and food. I would also feel awful if I took the money in the wallet. I actually have found a wallet before at a mall and it had around $300 in it but I returned it back to the front desk. I do not think everyone would return the wallet. Not everyone sees things the same way and maybe the money could benefit them so they would take it

  8. In my opinion a good samaritan is someone who would rather make the good decisions than bad ones or someone who would do good deeds to benefit someone else without any benefits for themselves. I think personally I wouldn't have opened the wallet cause I would have been scared someone though I stole it and I think I would have just given it to someone I trust to handle. In the story they were next to a tim hortons so if I was in that situation I probably would have given it to the tim hortons staff to handle just in case he came back looking for it. I think that most people in this situation would probably just have taken the money.

  9. A good Samaritan is someone willing to help anyone, no matter the race, color or ethnicity. It would also be good if the person did not want any pay. I would probably have returned the money. It was a lot of money and I don't think I could even just take it. It would depend on what people would do in that situation. If it is someone with a good heart, they would return the money. But if it is someone greedy, or wants money, they would probably keep it.

  10. A good samaritan is a charitable or helpful person who does the right thing almost all the time. Personally, I would have thought about taking some of the cash but in the end I wouldn’t and instead check for some sort of ID or contact number so I could hopefully return the wallet to its rightful owner. I know if I was the one to have lost my wallet, I’d like for the person who found it to do the same thing. It’s hard to say if most people would be ethical in that sort of situation considering everyone has different morals. I’d say it s a 50/50% chance that most people would have done the right thing.

  11. A good Samaritan is someone who knows the right thing to do in a situation like this. If I saw the wallet, I would go pick it up. I would probably look if I could find a name or an address of the person who the wallet belongs to. I wouldn't take any money because I know if my wallet got returned with all the money taken out of it or just taken I would not feel good. Unfortunately, there are people in the world who would just take the money and go. Hopefully there are people who would do the right thing and return it, but I have a feeling most people would take the money.

  12. A good samaritan is a helpful person who makes ethical choices and does good deeds for the people around them. They always do the right thing and thinks about others. If i was in this situation i would definitely be tempted to take a bit of money but if i thought about it more i would honestly put myself in the other persons shoes and if i were the person who lost the money i know i would be beyond grateful if i got it back.

  13. For me a good samaritan is someone who has the right invasion of what right and wrong is and is able to see the right choice while thinking about the consequences of both options. I would have given back the wallet, I wouldn't feel right having stolen money in my wallet, and also I don't really need money because whenever I think of buying something, I just think that I'm going to stop using it sooner or later. It really depends on the situation you're in, if you are desperate for need of money ,whether it's your medical bills or house expenses, you'll probably have to take the wallet.

  14. A good samaritan is someone who thinks of others and is kind to all. They are charitable and will do the right thing. If I was in this situation I would have most likely given the wallet to the authorities/police so that they can find the true owner and give them the wallet with all the cash. If the amount of cash was only five dollars I probably would not have cared to give the wallet back but since the amount of money was $1400 I would have turned it in. I don’t think many people would do the right thing because many people in the world are very greedy and don’t care about others.

  15. A good Samaritan someone who is kind to everyone, and knows right from wrong. In this situation, if the wallet had information and a lot of cash, than I would definitely return it to the owner. It's their information, money and potentially their life, and it would suck never finding it. If it was a wallet with 0 info and like, 20 bucks in it, then maybe I'd keep it. I feel like most people would return it, but I know many people who would keep it.

  16. A good Samaritan is is someone who does the right thing even though they don't have to. I would have tried to find the owner of the wallet and return it. I wouldn't want someone else claiming it though so that could be tricky. Unless I saw the person drop it. I feel that most will most likely not return it because its a lot of money. There are also a lot of people who would return it.

  17. A good Samaritan is someone who does things that are considered good or right even if they aren't technically required to. If the wallet had any kind of identification I would return it but if there was absolutely nothing to identify someone with I would probably ask around if someone lost a wallet, I wouldn't specify how much was in it because people are greedy and would take it, but I would simply ask if someone had lost a wallet. Honestly, society is corrupt and based around money so if given the chance, I beleive most people would take the money or some of the money.

  18. A good samaritan is someone who knows what the right thing to do is and will put it into action, even if they don't have to. If the wallet had identification of who it belonged to, I would try to return it to them. Especially of it had a large amount of money in it. I would personally want my wallet returned to me, so i would try my best to do that.

  19. I believe a good samaritan is someone who does stuff for the greater good and not just for himself or herself As well as help others in random acts of kindness. I have actually been in this situation before me and my friends were walking and we found a phone with a wallet attached and we ended up getting in contact with the owner and he ended up giving us 50 bucks. so if I found something again I would do the same thing and try to find the owner. I think just like me most people's first instincts would be to take it but after like not even 30 seconds they realize that they should do the right thing but obviously there are some people that just will steal.

  20. I think a good samaritan is a person who is honest and responsible and knows to do the right thing to help others instead of him/herself. Knowing me I would have probably looked through the wallet, checked if anyone was looking and then taken the money and gotten rid of the wallet. I think that in these difficulte times, many people could benefit from $1400 and would think about it. They would probably decide to do the right thing and put it back but some would take it.

  21. A good Samaritan is someone that is helpful and will do the right thing. I think that I would have given the wallet back because I would start to feel bad later and it's the right thing to do. I feel like most people would have just taken the money because most people don’t think about the consequences of their actions like guilt and what would happen to the person who dropped the wallet.

  22. A good samaritan is all about being a good person who makes wise and ethical desicions. Almost everyone's first instinct is to take the money but I wouldn't and I'd try to find the owner. This happened to my friends and I once back in March. We found a phone on the side of the road with a bunch of credit cards that came with it. Not going to lie here but almost everyone thought of taking the phone and all the money but we knew it would be the wrong thing to do. So after hours of trying to find the owner we found him and he was so happy because he had been looking for his phone all morning. He gave us a 50 dollar gift card! So if you do the right thing something good will happen back to you.
